Pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) at Radnor Lake State Park, 1/30/05. This bird was about 30' up and about 100' from me.

I've been waiting a long time to get one of these in my lens, and I'm honestly a bit disappointed. It's not very sharp, and it's backlit, and there's a lot of foliage between it and me. Cropped & color balanced for web. Shot with a Nikon 300mm f4 ED lens, auto ISO, tripod mounted. The good news is that I finally got one in my lens. The bad news is that it may be a while before I find another. Here's hopin'.
Some yabbering idjits scared it off as they came down the trail talking about snowboarding.
