Stunning Silence

Y'know, I am still at a loss for words upon seeing that the venerable South Knox Bubba has decided to hang up the keyboard.

Not so much that he gave it up, I guess. More how he hit the self-destruct button and ran.

I suppose that's one way to start off a clean break.

Maybe I'll have more to say later. Right now, I'm a bit gobsmacked.

Crap.

Nice.

And to add to my previous comment, I totally understand the perception and the frustration among readers and strong supporters such as you, Andy A.

But sometimes things are too complicated to explain. Or more simple, depending on the point of view. At any rate, hope we get a chance to go have a single-malt and take some photos.

Cheers!

Bubba:

Don't know if you're going to come back around and read this, but don't take it like that.

When I say "hit the self-destruct button," I was thinking specifically of the GAME OVER pic which is parked on the homepage of what was once your blog. It kinda reminded me of a game of Missile Command, which may or may not be what you were aiming at.

But I don't believe what others are saying, which is that you were somehow goaded or pushed into this. You pulled the plug on this whole enterprise on your own -- and without warning. And sorry, man, but it's a bit of a shock to the system to have that all yanked like that. Perhaps in the end it'll be better that way, but I in no way meant to imply that this was an act of cowardice on your part. Far from it.

I know you must have your reasons, and something as trivial as the Mediocre Pulse can't explain it.

I'll take you up on that scotch sometime, to be sure. If you're ever up for it, I know of a few places in Kentucky where bald eagles are known to roost year-round and the hummingbirds fly as thick as gnats. Decent bass fishing, too, or so I'm told.

I have been asked via e-mail and on my comments, what is going to happen to The Rocky Top Brigade? My answer: I'm not sure. It would have been nice to have a little heads up.What do we now all do with our links? How will this affect the traffic to our blogs? If we had warning, we could have planned for the change-over and started a new home. I don't mean to sound ungrateful. Bubba did a wonderful job for the grassroots movement and he provided a "home" to us Rocky Toppers. I do, however, think it was quite rude to throw us away without a word of warning. We have supported SKB in situations where his credibility was attacked. We have promoted him on our blogs and in the community. I realize it is his to do with what he chooses. I enjoy the same freedom. I know that I would not so abruptly quit without warning and leave a flippant message such as "So long and thanks for all the fish". Thanks for the years of service skb. You are appreciated, admired, and respected, but don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. How's that for closure.

Okay, then.

Sorry SKB, but we all have our own way of coping and this is mine.

May be more truth in this than intended. For someone who "wanted" to be anonymous, SKB flirted with discovery by becoming known to some, posting pictures that could have allowed some to deduce his identity, etc.

Too bad.
